WALTZ CEMETERY BURIALS (OTHER)

OTHER KNOWN BURIALS…

MILLER
Sarah Waltz, wife of Jacob, born 1804, died 1842
(Information per the publication Portrait and Biographical Album of Polk County, Iowa, 1890 (pg. 706). She is the sister of George R. Waltz and was living in this area when she died. Her husband would remarry – to one Elizabeth Dobson – on April 27, 1846. They are buried in Section 4, Lot 19. Perhaps Sarah is also.)

DOBSON
David, born about 1818, died about 1845
(He married Elizabeth Lance on September 26, 1839 and is found in the 1840 Lafayette census. They had two sons: William in 1840 and Abraham in 1842. On April 28, 1846 his wife remarries – to Jacob Miller – and, given all of the connections, his burial in this cemetery seems probable.)

KENWORTHY
John, died April 8, 1895, aged 68 years
(No headstone; the April 11, 1895 edition of the Medina County Gazette (page 5) tells us when he died and the April 18, 1895 edition (page 5) tells that he was buried “in the Union Cemetery at Egypt”. In the 1870 census for York Twp. a John and Diantha Kinworthy are living with Andrew and Helena Yeomans. Andrew and Helena Yeomans are buried in Section 1, Lot 3 so perhaps John is buried there also.)

LANCE
Jane, died February 4, 1897, aged 43 years
(No headstone; information obtained from her death record and the February 18, 1897 edition of the Medina County Gazette (page 2) which tells of her death at the infirmary and burial in this cemetery.)

MOULTON
Mrs. Maria, died September 14, 1905, aged 63 years
(No headstone; the September 22, 1905 edition of the Medina County Gazette (page 7) tells of her death and burial in this cemetery. The 1900 census for Lafayette Twp. shows Maria as being born in March of 1842, aged 58 years, and widowed. Her age at her time of death was estimated from that.)

HALL
Jeremiah, born November 14, 1832, died January 14, 1909
(No headstone; information obtained from his death certificate which lists him as buried in Waltz Church Cemetery.)

LENTZ
Russell Clyde, son of F.G. & Ada, August 7, 1910 – September 27, 1910
(No headstone; information obtained from the child’s death certificate which lists him as buried in this cemetery. The child’s parents are buried in Section 8, Lot 3 but that section of the cemetery wasn’t purchased until the following year after he died.)

VAUGHN
Arthur Burton, son of Jay P. & Maud, July 24, 1918 – July 25, 1918
(No headstone; information obtained from his death certificate which lists him as buried in Waltz Cemetery.)

EAKEN
Infant son of Dewey & Deena, December 17, 1922 – December 18, 1922
(No headstone; information obtained from the child’s death certificate which says he was buried in “N.W. Lafayette”. This child might be buried in Section 8, Lot 4.)

CARLTON
Infant daughter of Floyd H. & Lena, born & died May 6, 1933
(No headstone; information obtained from the child’s death certificate which says she was buried in “N.W. Lafayette”.)

GRETHER
Arthur, January 14, 1886 – May 13, 1963
(No headstone; the register at the Medina County Home provides the above information and indicates that he is buried in this cemetery. The May 16, 1963 edition of the Medina County Gazette (page 7) confirms this.)

SPRUNGER
Baby boy, 1963
(This information was taken from a funeral home marker that is now missing. It used to be located around Section 9, Lot 13 but sexton’s records make no mention of this burial and no further information could be located.)

FORMERLY BURIED HERE…

BRICKER
Martin L., 1862-1937
(His death certificate tells that he was originally buried here. Chatham cemetery records show that his body was removed to Chatham cemetery on March 17, 1938.)

HARTMAN
Royal Guy, son of Jacob M. & Hannah E., died May 14, 1884, aged 2 yrs 1m 15d

(The April 16, 1912 Union Cemetery Association minutes (pg. 73) mention that a J.M. Hartman and his wife requested a permit to remove the remains of their son “from the N.W. cemetery of Lafayette to Medina cemetery”. Indeed, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, Ohio can be found a headstone for Jacob, his wife, and their son Guy. The May 23, 1884 edition of the Medina County Gazette (page 5) provides the death information as listed above. The original cemetery map of the Union Cemetery Association shows that J.M. Hartman owned Lot 14 in Section 5 and his son would have been buried there.)

CLARK
Albert, December 5, 1843 – Jan. 17, 1896
Dorothy, daughter of Albert & Laura, September 23, 1875 – May 30, 1889

(The original cemetery map of the Union Cemetery Association shows an Albert Clark as owning Lot 2 in Section 2. The January 23, 1896 edition of the Medina County Gazette tells of Albert Clark’s passing and that he was buried in Waltz cemetery. It also mentions a daughter that passed years ago. Records for Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, Ohio show that the Clark family purchased a lot there on November 30, 1905 and that both Albert and Dorothy were reinterred there at that time. Now both names are engraved on a headstone in Spring Grove; from which the above dates were taken.)
