Lot 283
WARD
Isadora F., daughter of Smith & Margaret, died Dec. 26, 1864, aged 7ys 3ms 6d

WARD
Lyman, died Apr. 30, 1850, AE. 38y 6m 5d

CONGER
Sally, wife of David, died March 5, 1866, aged 59 yrs

CONGER
David, died Feb. 19, 1885, aged ??* yrs

* – this inscription is very worn but appears to say 103 years clearly enough. The February 26, 1885 edition of the Medina County Gazette (pg. 4) says he was 92 when he died. Adding to the confusion is that his age is given as 54 in the 1850 census, 64 in the 1860 census, and 74 in the 1870 census – which would make him about 89 when he died in 1885.

Lot 284
ELTON
John, died April 5, 1866, aged 80 yrs 11 mos
Polly, wife of John, died Feb. 22, 1870, aged 66 yrs 7ms

Hector, died Sept. 1, 1864, aged 7 weeks 4 days

Lot 285
NOBLE
Eunice G., 1823-1909*

* – the date of death on this stone is incorrect and should read 1912. This is confirmed by her death certificate and the August 16, 1912 edition of the Medina County Gazette (pg. 7).

NOBLE
Apollus A., died between 1850 and 1860 “A.A.N.”
Eunice, died between 1850 and 1860 “E.N.”

NOTE: There are no headstones for Apollus Noble or his wife Eunice. All that exists to mark their burials are footstones (2 that read “A.A.N.” and one that reads “E.N.”). The 1850 census for Litchfield Township shows Apollus A. Noble (age 63), Eunice Noble (age 67), Eunice G. Noble (age 24) and Emeline Noble (age 21). Neither Apollus nor the elder Eunice are found in 1860; only their daughter Eunice G. Noble (age 34). Presumably they passed away between censuses and the footstones are evidence of their burials here.

* – sexton’s records show a Mary Jane Woods that was interred September 3, 1957. The September 10, 1957 edition of the Medina County Gazette (pg. 8) confirms this is her and tells that she died Saturday (which would have to be August 31, 1957 given her interment date) aged 96 years.

HALL
Charley W., son of F & A.E., died Aug. 24, 1863, aged 1y 7?mo 21?ds

(Charley Hall appears on another headstone at Chatham Cemetery in Chatham, Ohio. At the time of his death that part of Chatham Cemetery did not exist so he must have originally been buried here, on his mother’s family plot. Chatham cemetery records indicate that he is buried there now in Plat 2, Lot 9. The cemetery land was purchased in July of 1871 and the lot is listed under the name of his father, Frederick Hall. Frederick died in March of 1874 so Charley was probably moved to Chatham during that period.)

SHANK

Children of Homer & Mary:
Ada ??e????, died Jan? 24?, 1862?, aged 5 yrs 5?ms 4?ds
Ida, died ??? 18??, aged 7?yrs 2ms 9?ds

* – the 1860 Litchfield census shows Homer and Mary having two daughters: Ida A. (age 5) and Ada T. (age 3). Neither of them appears with Homer and his new wife in the 1870 Chatham census. Based on the visible name, date, and age information on the stone it looks as though both girls died in 1862. Ada was only 5 when she died and Ida being only 7.

Lot 341
DUNBAR
Lee J., son of R.A. & P.M., died Apr. 4, 1854, ag’d 8 y’rs 3mo
also infant dau., died Mar. 24, 1854

DUNBAR
George, August 11, 1878 – April 6, 1931

(No headstone; information obtained from his death certificate. Sexton’s records show him buried in this cemetery but do not give a location. He is the son of Lucius & Anna Dunbar. In the 1850 Litchfield Twp. census, his father is living with Ransom A. & Polly M. Dunbar; the parents of the children on the marker found here. Given the family connection, and that this is the only lot in this cemetery with any connection to the Dunbars, his burial on this lot seems likely.)

STRAIT
Leslie C., interred 9-1-1973 May 1, 1895 – August 15, 1973*

* – none of these graves are marked by headstones. An old map in sexton’s records shows this lot as being owned by Asa Strait. All three are found in sexton’s records as being buried in this cemetery. Their burial on this lot is an educated guess given the evidence. The information on Asa and Bertha is from their death certificates. The information on Leslie Strait is from Social Security Death Records and matched with a Lesley A. Strait in the 1900 Litchfield Twp. census. That Leslie is a son of Asa C. and Bertha Strait.

FORBES*
Alexander, died between 1860 and 1870

HULING*
Clara L., wife of Harris, July 22, 1833 – March 9, 1922

* – There are no headstones for either Alexander Forbes or Clara Huling. Sexton’s records list Clara as buried in this cemetery. The other information is obtained from her death certificate. She is a daughter of Alexander & Sophia Forbes so this is the best guess as to her place of burial in this cemetery. Alexander’s burial here is assumed given that his wife is found here. He is found with her in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 censuses in Litchfield Township but not in 1870. Presumably he died during that time and would have been buried here with her.
